Caitlin

We took Caitlin to see Dr. Tammi this afternoon... just to be safe. She hasn't run fever since Sat afternoon but since she was only running fever we wanted to make sure that it wasn't her ears (Hailey passed her the snotty nose- hers started up Sat night). As bad as it sounds I was really hoping it WAS her ears but no such luck. Her ears look great and she just has a little drainage. Hailey's ears look good as well and same thing just has some drainage (both are clear). She went ahead and did a urine sample today and it did show up in their office with elevated white blood cells and a few other things that make her believe she has another UTI. She went ahead and started her on antibiotics today and will get the culture back hopefully Wed, if not Thurs that will confirm if it is for sure a UTI. If it IS a UTI she said we'll have to talk to the urologist and see what he wants to do but most likely will start her on small doses of prophylaxis antibiotics nightly. I am kind of in panic mode just because I thought she was in the clear and with any UTI she gets it causes the risk of damage to her kidneys due to her reflux. It was nice to see Dr. Tammi though today and be able to speak with her about everything that's been going on (all the appts with the urologist and so on)... she said she believes Caitlin is a Grade III on her kidney reflux which is the iffy stage on what you can do to treat it. My main concern from this point is what the urologist will say BUT it does seem like from talking with Dr. Tammi it will just be antibiotics (for awhile) and if it continues then we'll cross that bridge when we get there. We asked her if she was in "pain" with all of this and she said there is no way to know for sure (since she can't tell us) but she might have some discomfort from the UTI and with it stirring up her refulx so we can just stay on top of Tylenol and/or Ibuprofen and if we wanted to give her diluted cranberry juice we could.

Sooooo.... she is okay but unfortunately not okay at the same time. Of course in MY eyes she is not okay but Dr. Tammi didn't seem to be THAT worried...

On another note: Hailey is good. Just has the runny nose like I mentioned and has been messing with her ears and more fussy then normal lately -- maybe she is finally cutting her molars? She also does the CUTEST thing in the car now... when we come to a red light or stop sign she will say "GO". It's sooo funny! Depending on her mood, she will sometimes say "daddy or mommy -- go" really soft. HAHA but it's usually yelling GO!! She is also getting REALLY good at telling us yes or no now when she wants something. Which is soooo nice!!! We don't have to guess anymore. And the more common "words" that she comes across daily she is starting to pick up and know how to say them or at least say them in her own way so that's nice too that we can ask what she wants and actually be able to tell.
